UPDATE: 23.07.2025  🚴 He did it! and has raised a MASSIVE £1,055!  🚴

Will arrived in Bridlington with his Dad at around 2pm after a ‘short’ (70km) final day ride in the sun. Smiling and still able to walk, he enjoyed a paddle in the sea and some very well deserved fish and chips before heading home. Thank you to everyone who has sponsored him – he really appreciates your generosity and all the kind comments.  A relaxing Summer holiday now lies ahead!

Will, your TGS family is overwhelmingly proud of you and we would like to say thank you SO much to you, your dad and your family for taking on this amazing challenge in aid of our athletics track fundraiser.

UPDATE: 22.06.2025  🚴. Last week we received an email from a parent telling us that their son, year 9 student, Will was planning to participate in the 170 mile Way of the Roses cycle ride over 3 days. 🚴‍♀️

Will is doing this with his dad to raise money for our athletics track. As you can imagine we were absolutely astounded and, on chatting with Will, heard about the training he and his dad are doing, building up the daily mileage needed. As his dad runs with the Tadcaster Harriers (our project partners who are also fundraising) they both want to complete this challenge for the benefit of the pupils and wider community.  They start this challenge in Morecambe on the 21st July and finish in Bridlington on the 23rd. There will be cake stops en route – especially on the first couple of days to get them over the hills!

Ms Dickinson’s Wainwright Challenge

Oh my goodness – challenge was definitely the right word. After the rain, mist and gales (unfortunately no sun) as they walked, clambered, and carefully navigated a river over their route on Saturday, they hoped that Sunday would bring them some brightness for Scafell Pike.

Unfortunately, the rain of Saturday (which turned torrential overnight) left Scafell unsafe to climb and they were advised not to attempt the ascent (others were being helped to safety) so, getting up at 5am on Sunday they took an alternate circular route.

This was a longer but safer hike around the foothills and included: Chapel Stile, Elterwater Slate Quarry and Cathedral Cave – even this lower fell walk involved some scrambles and mud sliding, but thankfully no overflowing rivers!

The magnificent four had a fantastic day but there were a couple of casualties! Two pairs of trusty boots are no more. So, once new boots are broken in, these fabulous ladies will be heading back up to the Lakes to complete Scafell.

We would like to say a HUGE thank you to Ms Dickinson, Kerry, Katie and Sophie for taking on this amazing challenge! You really have made a massive difference to our fundraiser and raising £780!

Tadcaster Grammar School is currently working to raise £68,050 to fully reinstate our athletics track and high/long jump facilities for the benefit of the wider community.

Storm damage has rendered our very old, but much-loved athletics track beyond economic repair, and we are now looking to raise funds for the full refurbishment of this fantastic community resource. Once completed, the track will be available to use by our Trust primary and secondary schools and our project partners Tadcaster Harriers running club.  We will also be offering this facility as a safe space for a variety of other local organisations or groups to enjoy athletic activities. There is no similar accessible resource within a vast radius of the school’s location.

We have planned many opportunities for our students to help raise funds through a variety of events such as a whole school sponsored 1, 3 or 5K run/walk, and much more.  However, we really do need the help of our wider community, local  businesses and former students, to help us reinstate the athletics track, and long/high jump facilities as soon as possible.

Every donation we receive will make a huge difference to our project.  To make it easier for everyone to help us, and share our message, we have created a CROWDFUNDER page for all donation and appreciate any pledge, no matter how small.  Please CLICK HERE to visit our Crowdfunder page… don’t delay – our fundraising page is only available until 18th August!  Thank you!
