Sending our Support to Ukraine

As a school community the generosity of our students, families, friends and staff will never fail to astound.

The world was brought to a standstill as news broke on February 24 that Russia had invaded Ukraine. The situation in Ukraine is actively evolving, as are the needs of citizens in the country and neighboring regions.
Everyone wants to do their bit to support those who have been forced to flee their homes because of the invasion. Organisations across the UK are gathering essential supplies, such as clothes, first aid and sanitary products. As with any crisis, women, children, marginalized communities, and the poor will be those most affected.
As a school, we are donating via a charity called Vulnerable Citizen Support Leeds. We have been asking our school community for Good quality used adult and children’s clothing and shoes. Baby essentials such as: nappies, wipes, formula milk, bottles, sterilisation tablets. Sanitary products. Batteries. First aid/medical supplies and Toiletries.
As always we have been totally overwhelmed by the generosity and support from all our community. We have so far received £1282.00 in monetary donations and a significant amount of clothing, toiletries, medical supplies, sleeping bags and baby essentials. Since then there has been an exceptional flow of generous donations which TGS staff, students, parents and community volunteers have been sifting and sorting through, to ensure what is sent will be organised and useful.
Such has been the overwhelming response from our school and local community that Vulnerable Citizen Support Leeds has to do more than a few trips to collect everything.

When confronted by such bewildering and upsetting news, what a wonderful way it has been for our sudents to learn and be part of the goodness and humanity in the world. Thank you for your on-going support. Thanks also go to Mel Carroll (Assistant Headteacher), Jude Kay & Helen Cooney (English Department) and so many other staff for their work on this important project.

Thank you
