Students Learn Life Saving Skills

The Year 10 Child Development group are currently looking at child safety in their lessons. A large part of this is to understand common childhood accidents and injuries, and how to deal with these incidents. Mini First Aid were called in to help the students . The course covered how to provide first aid for babies and children in a variety of situations, such as a bump to the head, choking, seizures, cuts, burns and broken bones along with how to provide CPR to a baby or child who is not breathing. There were practical opportunities for students to have a go at CPR on the baby and child dummies, and attempt the Heimlich manoeuvre to dislodge a blockage in an airway using the ‘choking vest’.
The class covered the basics of life saving first aid, giving students the confidence to know what actions to take if faced with a medical emergency. The skills taught by Mini First Aid can, literally, be lifesaving.
This session has given the students both the ability and confidence to deal with first aid scenarios as they arise.
